The Neckline & Necklace Guide

The neckline is the frame; the necklace is the art within it. Use this guide to choose the length and silhouette that lets both your outfit and your Jewellery Banc piece speak clearly — never competing for the same word.

Three Guiding Principles

1. Echo the Line

A necklace should generally follow the shape of the neckline — a V-neck is elongated beautifully by a V-shaped pendant; a round neckline is softened by a curved strand.

2. Create Contrast, Not Competition

Covered, high, or detailed necklines (turtleneck, halter, Queen Anne) call for shorter, closer pieces or none at all. Open necklines invite length.

3. Let One Element Lead

If the neckline is ornate — beading, ruffles, embroidery — choose a quieter chain. If the neckline is plain, this is where your coral or pearl statement piece takes the stage.

Round / Jewel	Princess (17–19") pendant	A single drop breaks the circular line and adds length to the neck.
Scoop	Princess to Matinee, layered strands	The wide, gentle curve has room for graduated coral or pearl layers.
V-Neck	Y-drop or pendant echoing the V	A pendant that mirrors the V elongates the silhouette beautifully.
Sweetheart	Delicate choker or collar	The neckline is already a focal point — keep the necklace close and quiet.
Queen Anne	Statement studs or short pendant	The high back and low front are busy; let earrings lead instead.
Halter	No necklace, or a fine collar	The neck is already framed by fabric — a necklace competes rather than completes.
Off-the-Shoulder / Strapless	Choker or wide coral collar	Bare shoulders and collarbone are the showcase — sit the piece close to the throat.
Square	Princess length pendant	Softens the geometric neckline with a rounded drop.
Turtleneck / High Neck / Mock	Long pendant or opera-length layers over the top	Worn outside the collar, a long piece adds interest without crowding the throat.
Grecian / Cowl	Delicate single strand	The draped fabric already has movement — a fine chain avoids visual clutter.
Plunging / Surplice	Opera length or lariat	Draws the eye down the centre line in one continuous, elegant statement.
Keyhole	Short pendant that nests in the cut-out	A small drop can sit intentionally within the keyhole detail.
Sabrina / Boat	Collar or short choker	The wide, straight neckline is flattered by a piece that follows its horizontal line.
One-Shoulder / Asymmetrical	Simple pendant or ear-forward look	The neckline is already directional — a single clean piece keeps balance.
